Guildford A.C., for the third consecutive week, came out with sub standard team effort to open their League Game against the Dunbar Maniacs. Individually, A.C. performed reasonably well, however, the second defenders and attackers seemed indifferent to play going on around them, often allowing teammates to get caught in posession resultling in turnovers.
Dunbar opened the scoring fairly early in the game on a corner. Several Guildford players got caught pointing fingers and waiting for others to challenge for the ball which led to a relatively easy finish for Dunbar to open a 1-0 lead. A.C. did start to perform slightly better by sticking to tactics but the overall team effort was not there to really force Dunbar back on their heels. The Maniacs defended very well and were quite organized in their effort to keep Guildford at bay. Only a poorly taken goalkick, which was quickly deposited in the back of the Dunbar goal, allowed Guildford to draw even at 1-1.
In the second half, A.C. looked like they were going to take control of the game early on mounting several scoring chances but just missing on numerous occations. Against the flow of play, Dunbar got forward quickly and finished off a rebound for a 2-1 lead. The goal deflated A.C. and Dunbar was content to sit back hang on to the lead.
Final score 2-1 Dunbar. Next week A.C. opens Cup play against North Shore Adrenaline.
