Outmanned but not Outgunned

The final league game before the holiday break was not a game anyone was circling on their calendars. With Guildford A.C. sitting atop the standings and Aldergrove at the bottom, the contest could have been a bit of a mismatch except for the fact that A.C. was without thier starting keeper and another player was out of the line-up due to illness. While Aldergrove has struggled to put up wins, they have not had any difficulty keeping pace scoring goals with other teams in the bottom half.

In the early going A.C. again struggled to finish chances puting several shots right at the Roadrunners keeper and blowing several other wide. Eventually, the opening goal came to put A.C. ahead 1-0. With a few tactical adjustments Guildford was able to stretch out the Aldergrove squad and some well played penetrating balls put A.C. in on several 2v2 and 3v2 situations; the goals came quickly. At the half, Guildford had opened up a 5-0 lead.

In the second half Aldergrove had lost all taste for Guildford's offensive prowess and four more goals came quickly. Through the remainder of the game, A.C. worked to control the tempo and pace of the game by maintaining posession of the ball. Final score 9-0.

With the win, Guildford stays atop the standings for the holidays. Next week A.C. will likely play a friendly with Surrey United before competing in the T.S.S. Tournament on December 22nd.
