Solid Performance Yields Result

Highlights from Guildford A.C. vs. Peace Arch United November 15th, 2008. Guildford won the contest 2-0.

Guildford got back to league play with a rematch against Peace Arch United whom they had knocked off 4-0 two weeks previous in Conference Cup play. Guildford was expecting a much tougher game from United this time around as the organized Peace Arch squad would be out to avenge their previous loss.

In the early going A.C. was the aggressor but failed to generate quality chances despite controlling the play. United responded back later in the first half with some strong pressure forward but, like A.C., they failed to generate quality chances. Both teams stuggled a bit on the very slippery playing surface.

In the second half A.C. was able to generate a but more and eventually struck on corner kick that was executed exactly as drawn up in the playbook. The United keeper was able to get his hands on the cross but dumped the rebound right to the top of the box where the waiting Guildford player put a low and powerful shot through traffic into the back of the net.

Despite the deficit, Peace Arch didn't collapse and altough Guildford tried to stretch their lead scoring chances were limited. At the back end A.C. surrendered a couple of shots but both were easily handled by the keeper. Late in the second half one of A.C.'s central players was able to slip a check and find some space from which he struck a great shot low to the far-post corner that just eluded the keeper and doubled the lead. Final score 2-0.

The win moves A.C. past Peace Arch in the league standings and a little closer to a spot atop the table. Guildford takes on the SFC Panthers next week which should be another matchup of heavyweights sitting near the top of the league.
