After two shutout wins in the first two weeks on Conference Cup play A.C. needed just a tie to get out of their group and move onto the Semi-Finals. Guildford however had better ambitions than simply coming out with a tie; with a four game shutout streak already on the books A.C. wanted to push it to five against the Langley United Gladiators.
A.C. was able to once again get on the board early and throughout the first half scored often. Perhaps most exciting for coaches and fans was the variety goalscorers and buildups used by the Guildford squad to expand their lead. A.C. was able to score off direct shots, rebounds and crosses. At the half, the boys in blue were up 5-0 from five different goal scorers.
In the second half Guildford really tried to control the tempo of the game by hanging onto possession and forcing Langley to shift and open up holes in their defensive line. The Gladiators were able to mount a couple of chances in the second half but both opportunities were mopped up well by the A.C. keeper and defensive line. Guildford ultimately put up three more goals in the second half for an 8-0 win.
Through the group stage, Guildford A.C. went 3-0 with 18 goals for and 0 against. The semi-finals are slated for January 24th where A.C. will take on the best 2nd place finisher out of all the groups. Guildford now goes into a bye week where they will likely play the SFC Red Devils in exhibition.
