In the Driver's Seat in Conference Cup

Arjun Girn gets around a Peace Arch defender and slots a beautiful shot off the far-post and in for the goal

Guildford A.C. hosted their only home game of Conference Cup and with a win could take a commanding lead in their group. The boys were also under extra pressure as many club members were in attendance as part of the festivities for the Grand Opening of the new Hjorth Road turf.

A.C. looked a little uncomfortable with the extra pressure in the early going as they were a little flat in the opening minutes and gave up a few chances to the Peace Arch opposition. Peace Arch was in dire need of a win as a loss would knock them out of contention for top spot in the group. A.C. was able to weather the early pressure and about the 15 minute mark got on the board when a good setup was smashed past the United keeper for a 1-0 lead.

After building the lead Guildford looked far more comfortable and controlled the game well. Before half time, Peace Arch struggled to contain A.C.'s offence and Guildford would add another goal before the break for a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Peace Arch stayed with Guildford but had difficulty mounting any kind of offense that was truly dangerous. The game breaking goal came on a great overlapping run forward out of the back that saw the A.C. defender get right around United's defensive line and slot a shot, while falling, that went off the far post and in for a 3-0 lead (see video).

Guildford would cap off the result late in the match with another goal that made the final 4-0. With the win, A.C. now has six points to lead their group but still has to knock off Langley United Gladiators next weekend to lock up top spot and a place in the Conference Cup semi-finals.
