Conference Cup Starts Strong

Guildford A.C. had to come off the high of a big tournament win in Coquitlam and get right back to work with the opening round of Conference Cup. A.C. was pitted against Aldergrove who have been struggling in the early part of the season but the Guildford boys did not want to get caught off-guard.

Guildford started off well holding a great majority of possession and slowly building a series of scoring chances. A.C. would get on the board about the 12 minute mark as a striker was able sneak through and a well played ball put right to his feet was finished well from in close. The remainder of the half was much of the same as A.C. spread the ball around looking for opportunities to attack and was rewarded of several occasions.

Aldergrove's only scoring opportunity and only shot of the game came on a free kick from 25 yards out that was put onto goal and easily handled by the Guildford keeper.

In the second half, Guildford struggled in the early part as they fought their system a bit and players were consistently getting caught in the wrong places. Despite the poor play, Aldergrove did not threaten the scoreline. A.C. was able to correct themselves and add two more goals in the second half. Final score 6-0.

Round two of Conference Cup sees A.C. take on Peace Arch United. With a win Guildford could take a commanding lead in their group. Guildford Athletic Club will also celebrate the grand opening of their new turf at Hjorth Road Park. Come join the club in celebration at 3:00pm, where the Mayor and City Council members will be on hand along with the G.A.C. Executive, Staff Coaches and club members.
