Guildford A.C. chose not to take the week off despite having a bye on the league schedule. Having suffered a loss the previous week, they wanted to bounce back whether there were points on the line or not.
Guildford managed to arrange a friendly with PoCo United 97's from the Westminster/Alouette Development league. In the early going A.C. certainly proved themselves to be the more offensive squad however breaking down PoCo was a tough task. Guildford was able to hold posession and surrendered no scoring chances but was playing far too direct which allowed United to remain compact and close up holes.
Guildford opened the scoring at the twenty minute mark on a cross that drifted onto goal; with the distraction of the onrushing striker, the keeper misplayed the ball and A.C. was up 1-0. Before half time Guildford was able to add another. A.C.'s centre mid slipped a defender and stepped into a shot that was smashed top corner leaving the PoCo keeper with no chance.
In the second half, Guildford was far better in posession using the full width of the pitch to stretch the opposition which opened up numerous scoring chances. A.C. finished four more times in the second half and allowed only a couple of shots and no scoring chances. Final score 6-0.
A.C. gets back to league play next week against Langley United.
