A.C.'s builds up quickly and finishes well to put the game out of reach for the SFC Red Devils. Note the great penetrating pass and the deft touch to beat the SFC defender before swinging the ball in for a skillful finish.
Guildford was well prepared for a tough match with the reigning league champions as A.C. knew they needed a result in this early season game if they wanted to claim that title for themselves this year. The boys in blue got off to a strong start moving the ball around well to open up holes and was very stingy defensively not allowing the Red Devils to build any kind of offence.
A.C. got on the board first on a well developped play that ended with a ball that was well slipped in to an onrushing midfielder who got in behind and tucked the ball into the net with precision. Shortly after Guildford's striker got around the corner on SFC's back line and another well struck shot found its home near the low far post.
Guildford was able to keep a tight defensive formation though the rest of the first half and was rewarded with another goal late when a good through ball was collected by the striker who dribbled the keeper and tapped it home for the 3-0 lead at half.
In the second half A.C. suffered a bit of a repeat of the previous week as they crumbled defensively and some sloppy team defense allowed the SFC Red Devils to put two in the back of the Guildford net to close the gap to one. A.C. was able to settle down a bit but it was some tremendous head's up play that allowed Guildford to restore a two goal lead. A.C. was awarded a foul in their own end and while the Red Devils were unprepared Guildford very quickly collected the ball and took the kick, which was played forward to a striker who had no one within twenty yards of him. He patiently dribbled the keeper and finished for a 4-2 lead.
The quick play seemed to restore A.C.'s confidence as they looked much better to close the game and would add one more goal (see video) for a 5-2 final.
Guildford A.C. goes to 2-0 in league play knocking off one of their toughest opponents. Next week they face the SFC Scorpions who are also 2-0 as the string of tough games continues.
