In their first game back after the holidays Guildford A.C. was hosted by North Delta United. United sits mid table in the league standings at 4-5 but has only allowed 16 goals which is among the top five.
Having only trained indoors, A.C. expected to struggle offensively but were rewarded early when a good ball into the striker allowed him to slip the North Delta defenders and get in behind 1-on-1 with the keeper; a calm finish gave Guildford the 1-0 lead inside the first 5 minutes.
With the lead, Guildford was able to settle into the game and dominate posession but were hopelessly turned back with every attack. United's keeper led the way by picking off multiple crosses before they could become dangerous and limiting rebound opportunities. Before the half, A.C. finially converted again on a corner kick that was delivered into the srum and the ensuing scramble saw the ball fall to the feet of a Guildford player and was toed home for a 2-0 lead going into the half.
In the second half Guildford tried to stretch out the North Delta defensive shape and expose some holes which they did with limited success. United battled hard and stepped up their physical play but could not get A.C. to back down. Guildford continued to press the attack and North Delta held fast defensively but had little offensive presence in the game. Mid way through the second half United's keeper got off his line a bit late which led to a sloppy tackle on A.C.'s striker; Guildford was awarded the PK and converted for a 3-0 lead.
With the game out of reach, A.C. was able to steer home the win with another clean sheet. Next week A.C. plays the SFC Pathers in the Conference Cup Semi-Finals. The winner will advance to the final and play the winner of SFC Scorpions or Langley United.
