Both Guildford A.C. and the SYSA Red Devils put on a good show in an exhibition contest Tuesday evening. The match-up could be preview of solid and exciting rivalry developing at the U-12 Gold division this coming season.
A.C. jumped out to a lead on good ball through that was collected and finished well for the 1-0 lead. Shortly after, A.C. strung together several passes that culminated in another good ball through to spring free a striker who outsmarted both defender and keeper for the 2-0 lead. The Red Devils replied back a few minutes later on a great shot that got up and over the keeper and found the top corner leaving Guildford with a slim 2-1 lead at half.
In the second half the Red Devils pushed hard to tie it up and were rewarded when a loose ball was collected and finished expertly to draw even. A.C. didn't waste much time in responding, a great shot off the far post and in restored the one goal lead. SYSA, not to be outdone climbed right back catching Guildford out of shape and tied the game for a second time.
Shortly before full time A.C. would strike the final blow on a great one touch through ball that was finished for a 4-3 lead that would hold up to the final whistle.
While the Red Devils showed strong possession, Guildford showed their ability to be dangerous from a variety of sources. Ultimately the game proved that both teams have a solid foundation for the upcoming season and should provide each other with quality opposition and exciting games for parents and fans.
