Guildford went into the Conference Cup Final having already been crowned League and Dristrict Champions and needed only one more win to complete the treble with the Conference Cup Championship. In the cup final, A.C. would face their toughest opposition in the Fraser Valley and one of only two teams to defeat A.C. this season, the SFC Scorpions. In their previous match-up, the Scorpions dominated the middle of the park and physically outmatched A.C. in a 2-1 win.
In the early going of the final, A.C. looked a little flat but controlled the game and was able to keep SFC penned in their own end. Guildford missed several opportunities off of corners before finally converting for a 1-0 lead; a good ball in was headed back across the goal and past the Scorpions keeper. After the goal, A.C. was much more confident on the ball but was still not getting scoring chances in bunches. SFC did present of couple of dangerous opportunities but were held at bay by A.C.'s defensive line and keeper. Very late in the half, Guildford broke through the Scopions back line and rattled a shot off the crossbar, the rebound was collected and finished for a backbreaking 2-0 lead going into the half.
In the second half, SFC fought back a bit but caught a bit of misfortune when a A.C. striker was taken down in the box and the resulting penalty was scored for a 3-0 lead. Shortly after, Guildford was called for a foul in the box but the PK was put over the bar. SFC built some chances but A.C.'s keeper came up with some big stops to maintain the shutout. Just before full time, Guildford capped off the game when a breakaway was slotted for a 4-0 lead which would eventually become the final score.
With the win, A.C. completed the treble and closed their season with 19 straight shutouts. The squad worked very hard to earn their success putting in countless hours of conditioning and perfecting their play. Congratulations boys on your success this season; the coaching staff, your parents and the club are very proud of you.
