A.C. Crowned District Champions

Having knocked off the SFC Panthers in the semi-final, Guildford A.C. took on their future teammates on the Surrey United Rage in the Surrey Metro Soccer Association District Cup final. United pulled off a bit of an upset defeating the SFC Red Devils in their semi-final game, 3-2. Next season Surrey United and Guildford combine their top players in the Surrey-Guildford United metro program however, all friendships were set aside for this game with a Championship on the line.

In the early going, Guildford was the aggressor holding much of the possession and trying to mount an attack but the Rage were difficult to break down. Right up to the midway point of the first half, Surrey United held fast defensively despite A.C.'s determined effort. Guildford finally got a on the board on a ball that was fed into the box and set back for a midfielder who stepped up and hammered a shot top corner from 15 yards out. Off the ensuing kickoff Guildford caught the Rage again before they could compose themselves and another ball into the box found an A.C. striker all alone for a tap in. With United completely out of sorts, Guildford struck again on a carbon copy of their first goal quickly turning a tight game into a 3-0 lead for A.C., where the score would remain until the break.

In the second half Guildford put the game out-of-reach off the opening kickoff on a half break that was finished well depite the efforts of the Rage goalkeeper. Before the ten minute mark of the second half, A.C. had added two more; one off a corner where the ball was headed home with authority and the second on a well placed shot after a United giveaway. At 7-0, the final result was inevitable and A.C. put in a solid effort to control the clock and limit opportunities for Surrey United gain any kind of momentum. The Rage did present some danger, hitting the crossbar twice on free kicks from just outside the box, however, they just couldn't get any kind of fortunate bounce to get on the scoreboard. Final score 7-0.

With the League Championship and the District Championship wrapped up, A.C. has just the Conference Cup now to complete the treble. Guildford A.C. will face the SFC Scorpions in the final. The Scorpions are the only team in the league to defeat A.C. this season and battled all year long for top spot on the league table. The final is slated for March 7th.

Congratulations A.C. on the District Cup Championship.
