Guildford A.C. has been unwavering in their quest for the League Championship, knowing since late November they would likely have to win every game to the end of the season in order to claim the league. With a string of games against mid-table teams in December and January, the late season schedule would really be the test. A.C.'s final four league games would be against the four other teams in the top five. Having knocked off Peace Arch last week, Surrey United was this week's challenge.
Guildford got on the board early on a corner kick. The ball was curled onto goal directly from the kick and caught the United keeper of guard and went in. A.C.'s second tally of the game came on a cross that slipped out of the keeper's hands and Guildford's waiting attacker headed the loose ball home for a 2-0 lead. A.C. continued to mount offense through the remainder of the half but couldn't find the backbreaking goal before halftime.
In the second half, Guildford continued to press and on a free kick from 18 yards out, the ball was delivered low, directly into the mix and was redirected nicely for a 3-0 lead. A.C. would add two more before full time (see highlights) for a 5-0 win.
The SFC Scorpions drew 2-2 with Peace Arch United 97's giving A.C. an opportunity to wrap up the League Championship with a win over the SFC Red Devils next weekend. Also on the schedule for the weekend is the semi-final of the SMSA Sandra Duncan Cup where Guildford takes on the SFC Panthers for a birth in the final.
